First, to those of you who have tried to contact me via LJ: I was not getting notifications + things here in Japan are still quite hectic. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get back to you. I will after this. Thanks for being patient. :)
Second, a tiny update: there have been over 430 aftershocks over M4.0, and of them, 5 have been over M7.0. Apparently, this is the number of quakes the world experiences in three years. To think that Japan has experienced the same number of quakes in little over a month is both terrifying and annoying. But we're hangin' in there. I know I may just be another fangirl in fandom, but I'd like to thank you for your continued support.
Last, and most importantly, Arashi. :D This was a special radio program that aired only in Miyagi. All five of the members come together for this show to chat about their thoughts regarding the disasters. They also play several of their songs, all of which were actually requested by the listeners in Miyagi after the quake. It's a heart-warming round-table discussion, and you can just sense how much love is behind their words. ;_;

But it touched me thinking that she probably sat there next to a portable radio player holding her breath to capture the audio. This translation wouldn't have been possible without kind fans like her who, despite being a victim of the tsunami herself, has allowed me to use her recording so that international Arashi fans could also feel and be as one. S: You... must have been incredibly worried the moment the earthquake hit.
O: Certainly, um... well, it also shook in Tokyo, and I saw what was happening on TV.
S: And you knew that the seismic center was in Miyagi.
N: Yeah.
O: So, I called my parents, worried about our relatives’ safety. We were able to reach them fairly quickly.
S: Your relatives?
A: Mm-hmm.
O: And they told us that all of them were all right... we felt relieved for the time being, anyway.
A: Mm.
O: But as you all know, they had no electricity or gas for... a long time.
S/J: Right.
O: But at least recently, we’ve been uh... able to send them packages.
S: Oh, you’ve sent something, Satoshi-kun?
N: Oh, I see, mm-hmm.
J: You were able to?
O: Just a bit.

O: I’ve been able to send them some supplies.

J: Phones weren’t working in Tokyo, neither.

J: That’s why all we could do at the time was watch on TV what was going on.

N: Mm-hmm.
J: Yeah, and then after some time, we were able to get a hold of one another.

J: We found out we were all safe. And now, we’re in the middle of thinking about what we can do to help.

N: Exactly. We Arashi members pray for rapid restoration and recovery of the Tohoku area. Meanwhile, we bring you this special radio program to those in Miyagi, in hopes that we can support you all in some way.

S: We sang this song on Arashi ni Shiyagare in hopes that we could deliver our hearts to those in affected areas.

S: But I’m sure there were many who weren’t able to see the show, who didn’t get the chance to hear this song at the time. So, there it was again. That was Arashi’s “Hatenai Sora”. Okay, is there anything different you’re doing now in your everyday lives?
N: In our daily activities... even being in Tokyo, our lifestyles have changed.
S: Yes, that’s exactly so.
A: Yeah.
J: Definitely.
A: Mm-hmm.
N: And being flexible with these changes is what I consider a part of accommodating.
S: Yeah. Remember when we took part in Marching J?
N: Yeah.
S: Well, it’s only just begun, of course.

S: But to start off this project, we asked for donations.
N: For three days, right.
S: What did you all do on stage?
J: What did we do? [laugh]
S: Well, you know [laugh]. I’m sure many people don’t know about this project yet.

A: But, but... you, Sho-chan, and Nino...
S/N: We were only able to attend the first day.
A: We were there on the last day, too.
S: How was it? What did you all do?
A: On that day, we were standing really close behind the donation boxes, so it felt as though we were truly collecting the participants’ thoughts and wishes.
S: I see.
J: And... after participating in that, there is something I just have to tell the victims. Those who donated at the Marching J event were really worried about you all and strongly hoped that their aid could cheer up those in the Tohoku region, those who are listening to this radio show now.
A: As we stood there, they told us, “Make sure this gets to those who need it.”
J: What really surprised me was when we were standing beside those donation boxes, kids who seemed to be in the first half of elementary school donated what was probably their allowances. That really touched me, and made me think again about doing everything in our power to help.
S: Definitely. We collected the warm wishes of these donators hoping that we could deliver those to everyone in the affected areas.
All: Right.
S: When did you feel the importance of teamwork as a member of Arashi? ...How about you, Ohno-san? Because you know, Japan is acting as one. There are so many moments already, where we’ve come together hoping to help those in affected regions.
N: True.
S: When do you feel that Arashi is one? Tell us.
O: Well, we’ve been together for over ten years.
S: Right.
O: I notice our teamwork most during concerts.

O: They’re so good to me. They let me stay over with them.

J: I paid a visit there by myself. There’s a souvenir shop just beside it.
N: Date Masamune goods?
J: I bought books there.

J: I did, then returned home.

S: Aiba-san’s Chiba... is 34th.

J: Um, Date Masamune’s grave is located in... Zuihouden, I think it’s called. (*note: Date was a strongman during the Azuchi-Momoyama period who founded the city of Sendai). I wanted to go there.

J: I paid a visit there by myself. There’s a souvenir shop just beside it.
N: Date Masamune goods?
J: I bought books there.
A: You bought souveniers?
J: I did, then returned home.
A: Where’re ours?
J: What... I gave you yours.
A: [laugh] No way~ you didn’t tell us it was from Sendai.
J: I didn’t? Well, it was a personal trip.
All: [laugh]
S: You have really vague guidelines. [laugh]
A: I see, I see.
S: Let’s move on to this emergency special segment! Sakurai Sho presents: What’s Miyagi’s #1?
All: [laugh]
J: Wait, wait. Hang on, something just suddenly started.

S: Well, here’s the well-awaited segment!
J: Could you explain this?
N: It’s our first time playing.
S: Um, a few years ago, I was given the opportunity to travel across Japan on a show called Kenminsei Special. (*note: The full name of the TV show is: Nippon Kenminsei Happyou SP)
A: Okay.
S: So, of course, I visited Miyagi.
All: Right.
S: This #1... I went to Miyagi to find out for what they ranked first. So, what is Miyagi’s #1? For reference, Tokyo comes in third in this category.
J: What? Tokyo’s third and Miyagi’s first in this category?
S: Miyagi ranks first. And, compared to Aiba-san’s Chiba...
A: Yes, yes, my Chiba ranks where?
S: Aiba-san’s Chiba... is 34th.
O: That... that big a difference?
J: Wait, so... does this exist nationwide?
S: It’s intangible.
N: Like hospitality?
S: Yes, yes! Something like that.
N: The most ardent prefecture.
S: Mm... not hospitality!
A: Not hospitality?!
S: Something more manly, so to speak.
N: They value duty and humanity!
S: Oooh, that’s close!
O: They’re the most spirited?
S: Mm... man, aah, you’re close! Hm, but “duty and humanity” is closer.
J: I know!
S: Yes, Matsumoto-kun?
J: They don’t ever back out if someone picks a fight with them.
N: [giggle]
S: Oooh... but the opposite of that! The opposite.
N: Strong?
S: Mm... can I just say the answer?
J: Wait, hang on, wait, wait.
N: No way, we’re so close.
J: Fights...
S: By the way, I visited a kindergarten there. I went, and had a bad guy show up.
N: They have the strongest sense of justice!
S: Correct! Congratulations.
A: This is fu~n! Which ranked second? Second place.
N: No, no. You didn’t get any of that.
J: Are you not going to explain why they came in first?
S: Why they’re first?
N: Why, you know... why do they say people there have a strong sense of justice? Is there a reason?
S: When I was there on location... most kids would get scared if a bad guy showed up at their kindergarten, right?
N/J: Yeah.
S: But at the kindergarten there, the boys would yell, “Stop it!” and “Don’t come over here!” as they protected their teacher.
A: Wow!
O: That’s amazing.
S: I was touched.
J: How heartwarming.
A: Wow.
S: Okay, then. I hope we can do this segment again.
A: I’m excited for it.
S: I look forward to that day.
N: Ah, we’d be delighted to take part.

J: Yes?

N: Whaddya know!
J: This got a lot of requests, too, right?
N: It sure did.

J: How encouraging.
N: Yeah.
S: Well, well.
N: Right.
S: We five members of Arashi have been running this show, but time passes so quickly.
A: We’re already out of time?!
N: What?
S: Our time is up.
A: That was fast.
N: Way fast.
J: It’s already time?
S: Yeah...
J: Oh, come on, let’s keep going!
All: [laugh]
S: But...

S: We’re running out of time, Arashi-san.
J: What a bummer.
S: I regret to inform that it’s time for farewell.
N: Mm...
J: Fine.
S: Let’s make a shout-out to those in Miyagi. Uh... then how about you, Ohno-san?
O: Okay. Well, really. We...
N: Mm-hmm.

O: Yes.
