N: “It’s finally here!”
BayStorm with Arashi, featuring Kazunari Ninomiya!
N: Good evening, this is Kazunari Ninomiya from Arashi. Tonight’s opening thought comes from radio pen name Dare mo jama dekinai Arashi fan-san (*No one can stop this Arashi fan): “This is what I shouted when I found out that your first clips compilation will go on sale October 28th. When I heard that there would be a Best album, I secretly hoped that it would come with a clips compilation but my hopes were in vain. I was disappointed, but now that I know that it will be in stores, I’m very excited. I wouldn’t think this is the case, but was the video clips compilation STBY-san’s idea?” Was it?
S: Nope!
N: Whoa! That was quick! But during the process… you were there from the beginning, wouldn’t you say? You were with us on every set.
S: That’s true.
N: Right? So tell us: why have we decided to release this?
S: Are we going to go there?
N: Let’s try. If it doesn’t work, we’ll cut it short.
S: Well… you know. The clips compilation covers everything from the beginning, also, kind of like a ‘thank you, part two’ for the fans.
N: Why weren’t you keen on saying that?
S: [laugh]
N: Something that simple.
S: Was it okay to say that?
N: That’s merely how you feel.
S: True.
N: Yeah.
S: That’s what I believe the compilation will be.
N: What? What was with that “I believe” business? What do you mean by that?
S: [laugh]
N: You lose me mid-conversation, seriously.
S: I agree.
N: You get lost on a single path all of a sudden. You go round and round. Why is that?
S: Right.
N: But this also marks our anniversary.
S: Yes.
N: Maybe there are many people who know of Arashi’s songs but haven’t seen our stuff. It’s packed with songs, not just singles. “Lucky Man” is on there.
S: Right.
N: There should be clips that are from previous albums, too, so I hope everyone will check it out on October 28th.
S: Right.
N: Arashi’s what? What was it called again?
S: October 28th. Arashi 5x10 All the BEST! Clips 1999—
N: 2009. Do check it out. Anyway, I’m always looking for opening thoughts that I can shout at the beginning of the show, so do send in your detailed stories. This is Kazunari Ninomiya’s BayStorm introducing tonight’s opening number: This is TOKYO No. 1 SOUL SET + HALCALI’s “Konya wa Boogie Back”.
[TOKYO No. 1 SOUL SET + HALCALI – “Konya wa Boogie Back”]
N: That was TOKYO No. 1 SOUL SET + HALCALI’s “Konya wa Boogie Back”. This is Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya bringing you BayStorm. Let’s move onto this segment: God Has Arrived! First, we have radio pen name Kare wa Nino ni niteite yasashii hito desu-san (*My boyfriend looks like you and is a kind person). How do you think you read this? (*note: Nino’s wondering how to read the listener’s real name) Right? How do you read this? This is going to bother me. Ah, onto the e-mail: “I have a childhood friend who I have liked for a long time. When I was in fifth grade, I had to move due to unforeseen circumstances, but we kept in touch, though we hadn’t seen each other since. Late last year, I decided to become true to my feelings and I confessed my feelings in a letter. I didn’t receive any reply for a while, so I gave up and forgot I had told him that. Then, recently, I remembered a magical spell I used to cast during my school days. I tried it with him, and I got a letter back and was able to meet with him. It could have been the effects of the spell, it could have been that God had arrived. In any case, I’m happy.” I see. Feelings are powerful. Such an innocent emotion. And pure, too. Feelings are powerful things.
S: How nice.
N: Indee~d. She’s 20 years old now, right? That makes it 11 years? 10… no, 9 years? That’s amazing to have feelings for someone for that long. I’m serious. Wow. Onto the next e-mail, from radio pen name Jukensei rashikaranu jukensei-san (*I’m a student studying for entrance exams but don’t seem like one): “When I was playing the last game of volleyball during our P.E. class, the ball that the other team served hit the tip of my friend’s shoe, resulting in a ‘God Has Arrived’ moment. The ball miraculously bounced over to the other side. Because my friend didn’t intentionally kick the ball, we were given that point… which ended up being the point we needed to win. We were hyped even after class, saying that there really is a god. Do you have any memories playing volleyball, Ninomiya-kun?” Not like I’ve seriously played volleyball, but… a setter?
S: Yes, a setter. The setter.
N: I used to play that position a lot, now that I think about it. You’re not a volleyball type of person, right, STBY?
S: Not volleyball, but baseball.
N: Oh, were you a baseball guy?
S: Yes.
N: Baseball, huh? I see… so volleyball. I went to shoot the Gurunai recording and that was insane. During it, there was this volley… volleyball segment. And as expected, the ball went flying with force. If a professional male volleyball athlete gives his all, the ball can reach about 130 kilometers. Isn’t that crazy?
S: And you’re so close when you receive it.
N: It was super fast! This was today. And I bet they were only hitting it at 1/3 their full strength. It was so fast I couldn’t believe it. It was amazing. But yeah, I don’t think there are many instances where the ball would hit someone’s foot, now that I ponder this. Next. This is by radio pen name Nao ko-rin-san: “The other day, something amazing happened while I was playing a game placed in the corner of a general goods store. That game has an arrow that spins like a hand on a clock, and you can play three times with a 100 yen coin. If the sum of those three chances adds up to 5, the player can win a DSi. I thought I’d give it a try, so I put in a coin and… ‘pochitto na’. (*note: this is a famous phrase Boyakki uses in Yatterman when he pushes a button) I pressed the button and I got 5 on my first try. I wasn’t sure what had happened so I was staring into space for a bit, but then I thought, ‘G-g-god has arrived!’ It was truly one of those moments. On the way home, I thought something bad might happen to me so I drove really carefully.” Wow… but I’ve seen games like those, yeah. But I don’t even win free drinks from vending machines. You know those ones where you can win stuff?
S: Yes.
N: Right? I haven’t even won anything from those. Vending machines nowadays speak to you. They say things like, “Good morning”.
S: You’re kidding.
N: Do you think they say, “Good evening” if you pass by one at night? I only walk by those in the morning, so they greet me by saying “Good morning”. It freaks me out a bit. But it’s based on time, right? It must be, however you think about it. This is fascinating. I mean, a vending machine speaks to you. It’s much more enthusiastic than I am when I walk by it in the morning. We’ve reached some crazy times, really. Moving on. This is by radio pen name Game no osama-san (*The king of gaming): “One day, I went to an arcade to play this token game. I was out of tokens so I decided to start walking around when a token fell from up above. I played the same game with that token. I was happy; it was definitely a ‘God has arrived’ moment.” Isn’t this amazing?
S: And with one token.
N: No, no, no, no. I didn’t mean that being able to play with one coin is amazing. I’m saying that it’s crazy that a coin just fell from above.
S: R-right.
N: No, not right.
S: Yes, that’s true.
N: Wait, what? Why did you get caught in that detail?
S: Just because…
N: You were impressed at the fact that they could play with one token, right?
S: Yes… are you able to play with one token?
N: Doesn’t that depend on the game? Right? Can you not play those?
S: I can.
N: What?
S: What?!
N: No, no, no, no.
S: The—
N: What is this? This time, this worthless time. Stop that.
S: Sorry.
N: We don’t conduct this show in such a lousy, unprofessional way.
S: Right.
N: Okay? This time is very posh, this time slot. We do our thing and leave stealthily.
S: [laugh]
N: What?! Don’t pass such useless time.
S: Okay.
N: [laugh] If anything, this time is only stylish part about this show.
S: That’s true.
N: So please stop, really. That’s all for this segment today, but if you have any ‘God has arrived’ moments you’d like to share, anything will do. Please send them in to the show. Let’s take a listen now. This is Dreams Come True featuring Fuzzy Control’s “Sono Saki e”.
[Dreams Come True feat. Fuzzy Control – “Sono Saki e”]
N: That was Dreams Come True featuring Fuzzy Control’s “Sono Saki e”. This is Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya bringing you BayStorm. Let’s move on to this segment: Ura Arashi! (*Arashi secrets!) This first one comes from radio pen name Pink deka no deshi no deshi-san (*I am apprentice to the perverted police’s apprentice): “You mentioned that you had gone to Akihabara while playing the Yamanote Line Sugoroku. (*note: this is a “game” where you start at Tokyo station, throw a die, and travel that number of stations on the Yamanote Line) What did you do there? I can imagine you buying games and figurines, but did you do anything else? Let me know.” All I did was go buy games. Is there an anime character that wears armor over her maid outfit? I saw so many people dressed like that. They were wearing maid outfits, and over it, they had this pink… armor-like thing.
S: Really?
N: [laugh] Kind of like a maid samurai. “What’s with those people?” I thought. It wasn’t just one or two of them. There are tons of ‘em. It must be a popular character. I was trying to figure it out, but I can’t just ask them. It was a bit frightening. Let’s say one of them who’s really into character says to me, “I am a samurai” or something. I know I wouldn’t be able to hold a conversation after that, so I got a bit intimidated and couldn’t talk to them. But there were tons of them, probably more than the number of maids. They all had different colored armor. I wonder what they were… that’s been on my mind lately. Okay, radio pen name Futari no musuko mo Arashi fan-san (*My two sons are also Arashi fans) writes: “During a past show, you mentioned that you can’t sing the other members’ past in a song, but when I watch TV shows and concert DVDs, it seems you’re mouthing the other members’ parts the most. If you can’t sing their parts, then the other members of Arashi must know even less. Have you all talked about this before? Also, who do you think knows the other members’ parts least? Let me know.” Look, if the song starts playing, I think there are plenty of songs I could sing. But that’s because I’m listening to their voices.
S: True.
N: Yeah. There are times when things just don’t click. Like “One Love”. I went to sing karaoke and the others nagged me to sing something. The person singing felt most awkward. I was like, “Hm? Like this? Is this how it goes?” They’ll say, “Wow~ he’s the real thing!” but I’d be thinking to myself, “No, I don’t sing that part.” When things don’t click, they just don’t click. So interesting.
N: Next. This is from radio pen name Yangasu-kun: “You’ve said many times that you love DraQue (*note: short for Dragon Quest) and RPGs. Then have you played RPG classics such as Final Fantasy and Pokemon? If you do, please tell me your favorite installment. For your information, I like DraQue V, FF X, and Pokemon Gold and Silver.”
N: Is this person young? Ah, he is. My favorites… for DraQue, it’s IV, for FF, it’s VII. I haven’t finished a Pokemon game. That one’s a bit challenging for me. It’s a game for the generation after mine. But DraQue V is a heartbreaking one, don’t you think? DraQue V. I think it’s called Hand of the Heavenly Bride, the fifth DraQue. The story unfolds and you balance three generations of one family. Have you played this? You have? Isn’t it heartbreaking? In most every game, the main character has some sort of superhuman power. Most RPGs, too. In Pokemon, you can catch Pokemon, for example. But I can say that DraQue V is probably the only one where the main character doesn’t have superpowers. The reason is because the main character’s father is a brave warrior, but the next person who inherits this warrior nature is the main character’s son. So this character is just holding a strong stick. He doesn’t get to carry a heavenly sword or anything like that. All he’s got is this boomerang. He’s always throwing his boomerang. I become heartbroken playing the game. Oh, but he couldn’t befriend monsters… wait, he could. I guess that’s a superpower.
N: And FFVII… I recommend that you play FFVII, seriously. I’m talking about Cloud and Sephiroth. (*note: characters in the game, enemies to each other) It’s a major tear-jerker. Are you completely turned off?!
S: No, no, no, no…
N: All you’ve been doing is shaking your head.
S: [laugh] Well…
N: What is this, seriously? I was shocked just now.
S: It’s c-complicated. [laugh]
N: [laugh] Completely turned off!
S: That’s not true. There are lots of games, you know, FFVII, FFVIII…
N: Mm-hmm.
S: There isn’t a VVIII.
N: There is. This person said they like X (*ten).
S: [laugh] X, right.
N: If only VIII was left out, we’d be surprised. Were you even listening to my story? This is shocking. What is this?! But do you remember Dead Rising, the game I had repeatedly promoted? The zombie game I had been raving about? It’s a zombie paradise action game. May I announce that a Number 2 is coming out?
S: [applauds] Yay!
N: Thank you very much. [claps] What an honor, really. I think it’ll be fun this time around. Please try it out: Dead Rising 2. The setting’s in a Las Vegas-ish location, and there’s this crazy bad guy… the craziest, you know… the kanji used for written fortunes. (*note: Nino is talking about the word “saikyo” (written 最強), which means ‘strongest’, but he’s referring to the kanji 凶, which is also read as “kyo” and means ‘misfortune’) It’s written like that and there’s this “saikyo” rapper. That person runs this game and you’re forced to participate. He’ll say things like, “You won’t be able to escape.” But this rapper is just a normal human being; he’s not a zombie or anything.
N: This Las Vegas edition… I’d like to research it and promote it. If we wanted, I could just play the game here and let the listeners hear the sounds, at least. It’s a fun game. But it is a CMS-like game (*note: construction and management simulation), games like Grand Theft Auto and Bully. If I had to categorize it, it would fall in this one. If there’s anyone who’s playing Dead Rising and have any questions, do send me an e-mail. I’ll help you out right away. If there are others around you playing the game, don’t listen to what they tell you. Okay? Well, that’s all for today, but do send me your questions to this show. Let’s have a listen now. This is Arashi-san’s “My Girl”.
[Arashi – “My Girl”]
N: That was Arashi-san’s “My Girl”. Right! Tonight’s winner is this person, uh… Yangasu-kun, who will receive Volume I. The radio pen name winner is Pink deka no deshi no deshi-san, who will receive STBY’s t-shirt. I hope you treasure them. We’re always looking for mail to read during our regular segments. From your computer, you can access us at www.bayfm.co.jp and click on ‘BayStorm’. From your cell phone, go to BayFM’s homepage and find ‘BayStorm’ from the list of programs. Do visit us there. We’re just about out of time. To close…
S: Yes?
N: STBY will…
S: Yes?
N: Then… how about ‘zombies’?
S: Zombies?!
N: He’ll close the show with a haiku about zombies. If you will, master.
S: Right.
“Dead Rising.
They are not zombies,
They are a duo!”
N: … and your radio partner was Ninomiya Kazunari from Arashi. See you next week!

See you next week!

oh! btw,in recent shows STBY is not there, you know why? I try to listen his show every week but it's impossible sometimes so I have missed a lot, plus I can only understand a little bit of them!

Date: March 27th, 2010 11:12 (UTC)STBY is still around. ^^ For example, he was with Nino last week. STBY, though it doesn't sound like he does much, is quite busy in JE. Sometimes, he doesn't make all BayStorms and even more so because Nino is capable of running a show alone. But when STBY's around, I realize how much Nino actually would like him there. <3
